Monsoons only cause floods once in a while. In dry areas, if the monsoons don’t bring rain, it could cause people to starve because of famine, or it could cause a drought. Oftentimes, huge rainstorms from monsoons cause deathly landslides. Entire towns have been destroyed by monsoons. Almost half of the population of the world lives in areas affected by Asian monsoons. Did you know that monsoons in India are responsible for supplying 90% of India’s water?! Monsoons blow from the northeast, but carry little moisture. In the winter season, the monsoons go from dry land to the water, but in the summer it is the opposite. From November to March, the monsoons blow from the northeast. From April to October the monsoons blow from the southwest.
