Introduction

    An avalanche is a large mass of snow or ice sliding down a slope or off a cliff.  The temperature must be 32º (Fahrenheit) or less, and there must be a lot of snow.  There must be a vibration of some sort (from a sound wave all the way to an earthquake) to get the snow moving down the mountain or off a cliff.  An avalanche can travel 20-125 miles per hour.
