Have you ever considered the negative aspects of Genetic Engineering? President, Guaymi General Congress has the opinion that "I never imagined people would patent plants and animals. It's fundamentally immoral, contrary to the Guaymi view of nature and our place in it. To patent human material ... to take human DNA and patent its products ... That violates the integrity of life itself, and our deepest sense of morality." It is easy to get carried with the good aspects and overlook the risks. There are many risks, which some people think outweigh the good. Some examples of the problems that geneticists have come across are:

  • copies of Dolly the Sheep 'the big success story' are eight times as likely to die at birth compared with normal lambs
  • the immune system of rats was damaged by genetically modified potatoes
  • the superpig engineered with a human growth hormone gene was arthritic, ulcerous, blind and impotent
  • the Super Salmon that was engineered with faster growing genes from another fish had a bulbous head and died because of being unable to breathe, feed, or see properly
  • Flavr Savr tomato was a commercial disaster
  • Bt-resistance pests caused extensive damage to Bt-cotton
  • when sprayed with Roundup, Roundup Cotton shed its cotton balls
  • a soybean with a Brazil nut gene contains a protein fatal to those with nut allergy
  • the genetically modified food supplement L-Tryptophan is believed to have caused at least 37 deaths in the US and left 1,500 permanently disabled
  • the growth of wheat seedlings was dramatically inhibited because of genetically engineered soil bacteria
  • a bee's ability to recognize flower perfumes can be destroyed by transgenic canola
  • large concentrations of a mutagenic toxin were built up inside yeast with ferment-faster genes
  • during the summer in Missouri the Roundup-ready soya crop succumbed to the Fusarium mold
