Biography on Laura Ingalls Wilder

Laura Ingalls was born on Feb.18, 1867. She is the second child of Charles and Caroline Ingalls. She was born in Pepin,Wisconsin known to her as the "Big Woods." Then two years later they moved west to Indian Territory, Kansas (near Independence).

Then for the next ten years, Pa was looking for a successful farm land and a permanent home so Pa built a home on the prairie.

Then in 1871 they moved back to their old home in Pepin, Wisconsin. Life was not fair there so they moved to Walnut Grove, Minnesota where they lived in a sod home. This is where they began their homestead farm. That same year they had a grasshopper plague come and destroy all of there crops.

So they moved to Burr Oak, Iowa but nothing is recorded of the year they lived there.

But the next year they moved back to their old town in Walnut Grove for two years.

Then they moved to De Smet, South Dakota. That is where Laura Ingalls Wilder met, went to school with, and married Almanzo Wilder. Then nine years later Laura and Almanzo moved to Mansfield Missouri.
