Cafe Du Monde is a cafe in New Orleans, Louisiana. Cafe Du Monde is an element of the New Orleans food history. It has been around since the 1680's but was originally a coffee stand. It is the last standing coffee stand of the French Quarter. Cafe Du Monde is now owned by the Fernandez family. Their family, who first owned a wine cellar but closed it down to focus their time on Cafe Du Monde, has been the proud owners for over 60 years. Cafe Du Monde is filled with different sorts of crowds around the clock. Cafe Du Monde is famous for dispensing different types of cafe au lait. Cafe au lait is coffee with milk. The milk is scalded and then mixed with coffee. One thing you can't forget is the coffee's partner, 3 beignets. Beignets are square donuts sprinkled with powdered sugar. Another thing you must know is that these can cause a hazard: after you have eaten so many you will start to notice that these delicious beignets are getting bigger in your stomach. Then you'll just laugh about it while biting into another. There is a small dining room in Cafe Du Monde, but the place to get your beignets and coffee is on the covered patio so you can watch the many street performers. After a nice treat you can take a stroll along the Mississippi River or through the gorgeous shops. Cafe Du Monde is a nice place for some good time entertainment, open all hours but closed on Christmas. No credit cards, just cash $$.
