Rameses II was a pretty normal pharaoh.
He came into power when he was about thirty years old. He reigned
for sixty-seven years. He was the son of Seti I. In Rameses'
fourth year as a pharaoh, he was forced to fight the Hittites and their
allies. This turned into a war that lasted twenty years. In
that war, he attacked in campaigns. On his second campaign, he almost
lost his life. He was caught in the middle of 2500 Hittite chariots,
with only his body guards, and he escaped. After those long sixty-seven
years, neither side was victorious, so they agreed to sign a treaty.
Thirteen years after that war, Rameses
II married the Hittite princess. Rameses II accomplished a lot as
a pharaoh.
