Usually when married, the boys were a few years older than the 12 year old girls.
Marriages were usually arranged by the parents, although some young people got to choose
their wives. Ordinary men had usually had one wife although the king had many.
Divorce was an option, although most couples didn't divorce. But when divorce took
place the wife got the children and was free to re-marry.
