Ancient Egypt's religion was polytheism, which means that they worshipped many gods. They had over 2000 gods and deities. Egypt's chief gods were Osiris, the ruler of death, and Amon-Re, the ruler of the universe. Their gods were often shown partially human and partially animal.

Ancient Egypt had many accounts of the creation of the world. One of these versions was that the sun-god Re appeared on a hill in the middle of a dark ocean. Then he created all things. In another myth, Re emerged from a lotus flower and then created all things. Yet another belief was that Re appeared on the eastern horizon as a scarab beetle and then created all things.

The priests were ranked second in Egyptian life. Of course, the pharaoh was ranked first. The priests were mainly supposed to care for the gods. Some of their other duties included funeral rituals, school teaching, supervising artists and their works, and advising.

Ancient Egyptians spent their whole life looking forward to, and preparing for, their deaths. They believed that death was only a stage into a better life in the next world. They had three souls; the ka, the ba, and the akh. The body must remain intact though, because if the ka couldn't recognize the body, their 3,000 year afterlife would be ended.
