*~*~*~*~*Pyramids~*~*~*~*~

Ever been to Egypt? Well, if you haven't, they have some of the greatest ancient wonders of the world! The pyramids of Giza and the Sphinx will make you wish you lived back in ancient times. To learn some amazing facts about these great structures, read on. You will amaze you friends when you tell them about it.

Pyramids
The Great Pyramid is almost thirty times larger than the Empire State Building (in mass), an awesome site to see. From the Moon you can see the Pyramid- that's how big it is! Having been started 4,617 years ago, it is the oldest structure in existence. It is the sole remnant of the seven Ancient Wonders of the World.
Originally, when the pyramids where built, they weren't as dilapidated as they are now. It used to be cased with highly polished, tight- fitting 20- ton slabs of limestone. The Great Pyramids were built in the fourth dynasty during the reign of Khufu. The pyramids are so large, they can cover St. Peter's in Rome, the cathedrals of Florence in Milan, and St. Paul's in London combined!

Sphinx
Unlike the pyramids, the Sphinx is carved out of living rock (living rock is a term for a large chunk of rock). Standing 65 feet tall, it's 241 feet high! It is said to be built around the same time Khafre's pyramid. Then why are there no signs or markings saying it was for Khafre? Surely such a phenomenon which took painstaking time would be celebrated, but not a single thing found says anything about its construction. It is just one more of Egypt's great mysteries. The great Sphinx was built around 2500 b.c., and is still standing! Talk about a mystery!!
