Horus's name meant 'the one far above'. The Egyptians
had many different beliefs about Horus. A very common belief was that Horus
was the son of Osirus and Isis. When Set killed Osirus, Horus fought Set
for the throne of Egypt. While fighting in this battle, Horus lost one
of his eyes. His eye was restored and it became the ancient Egyptians sign
of protection. After this, Horus was chosen to be the ruler. He is pictured
with the head of a hawk.
