Clothing

Hello and welcome to the Ancient Egypt Boutique! Here we sell all kinds of beautiful styles that Ancient Egyptians actually wore! Perhaps we could interest you in a gorgeous linen kilt, which is a short skirt that men wore. No? We also have fine linen dress held up by large straps, in white or yellow. Would you maybe like beads sewn in? Or you could get this expensive pleated kilt or this pleated dress including a winter shawl?

You would probably run away very fast if you were greeted like this in any shop (just imagine the person talking very fast). But these are really the styles Ancient Egyptians wore. Children also ran around naked in summer, but in winter, they wore a dress or kilt (depending on their gender). The older of a man you were, the longer your kilt. When men were doing hard work, they just wore a loincloth. The texture of their clothing depended on how rich they were.  For example, the poor had coarse cloth and the rich had fine cloth. Simple as that.
Women did dye their dresses with any colored dye they could get. They did sew beads or bits of glass in, too.
So now you know what that shopkeeper was talking about when she said 'kilt' and 'egypt'. You don't have to run away now! Hooray!
