There is one danger in all cold places that most people don't think of. A person might think of the danger like wild animals or getting lost when they are hiking in a cold place like Alaska, but there is one more HUGE danger. Hypothermia is that danger.
Hypothermia is when the body temperature falls below 95 degrees F or lower. This can kill. In order to prevent this from happening you need to stay dry. When clothes become wet, they loose 90% of their insulating capability. Watch out for wind, it carries warmth away from bare skin much faster than still air. You can spot hypothermia by watching the following things: when a person voluntarily exercises to keep warm and makes involuntary adjustments to the vital organs, or a person starts to shiver.
Both of
these reactions drain your energy. If you are exposed to hypothermia
for too long coldness reaches the brain and prevents a person from making
good judgment, and a person will lose control of your hands.
If you
can not stay warm in the existing weather conditions do not try to finish
what you are doing. Find shelter and try to build a fire. DO
