Animals of the Grand Canyon


Bighorn sheep are known for their head-to-head combat between males. This has been observed to last for 24 hours!! They can also be known as mountain sheep.
The name Bobcat may have originated from its short tail, which is only 6 or 7 inches long. The end of its tail is always black, tipped with white.
Mule deer can range from 125 to 330 pounds. Their average life span is 10 years old. Mule deer get there name from their ears.
The Albert squirrel is also known as the tassel eared squirrel. It has long tufts of fur on its ears. it eats the pine cones of of the ponderosa pine.
Coyotes are part of the dog family. They live in low desserts and valleys. They feed on rabbits, ground squirrels, small rodents, and carrion
Bobcats live throughout the whole western U.S. There habitat ranges from deserts to humid forests. They bobcat is well camouflaged and an expert at stalking prey.
