Diet

Polar bears are carnivorous and eat about eight pounds of meat each day. They mostly eat seals, but they can also eat snow geese and white whales. They get their prey by swimming several miles just to find a seal to catch. A seal is very hard to catch because they swim very fast so the bears need to have a lot of patience. In the spring it is easier to catch prey because all the seals come out of the holes in the ice, and the polar bears are ready to catch them. When the seal comes up for air, the bears lift the seal up with their jaws. Then they slap the seal with their paw and kill him. Polar bears can even attack a 365 kilogram animal. The only parts of the seal the bears eat are the intestines and the blubber under the skin.
