The John Hancock Building

 

The John Hancock building is the second biggest building in Chicago. There are many interesting things about the John Hancock building. One of these things is that from the John Hancock building you can get very good views. Secondly, the John Hancock building has very interesting architecture. Lastly, the John Hancock building has many unique things to do inside.

The first interesting thing about the John Hancock building is that you can get very good views from the 94th floor. In the observatory on the 94th floor you can get a great view of Chicago. You can get a good view of north and south of Michigan Ave. From the top floor of the John Hancock building, you can see four states which are Illinois, Michigan, Indiana, and Wisconsin. The cost to enter the observatory is 3.50 for adults and 2.00 for children 5-15. For children under 5, it is free. The observatory tour is thirty minutes long.

Secondly, the John Hancock building has very interesting architecture. The John Hancock building is found at 875 N. Michigan Ave. in between Delaware and Chesnut. It was first started in 1964 and it was finished in 1969. The building needed extra support, so the architect needed to help support the building. Therefore, he put up X-Braces which prevented the building from falling down because of all the wind coming off the lake. The John Hancock building has 100 floors.

Skyscrapers have two very important parts. The first part is the foundation which is below the ground. The superstructure which is the part above the ground is the other. Both parts help support the giant skyscraper. The John Hancock building was designed by the company Skidmore, Ownings and Merill. Bruce Grahm also helped design the John Hancock building.

Lastly, the John Hancock building has many different things inside. One of the things that is in the John Hancock building is the History Wall. One of the interesting facts on the History Wall is that Chicago, the great city, was built on a swamp. Another interesting thing that is in this building is the soundscopes on the observatory floor. These soundscopes let people hear what parts of Chicago they are looking at from the windows. It says it to them in four different languages which are English, French, Spanish, and Japanese. In this building, there are also restaurants, apartments, offices, a bank and shops.

In conclusion, the John Hancock Building is a neat place to visit when you come to Chicago.
