Welcome

Welcome to The Nation Splits: a Step Closer to the Civil War! Most websites talk about the battles and fighting during the Civil War. What they don’t tell you is how it all started and how the Civil War affected the government and people all over the United States.

To help you understand the causes of the Civil War and how it affected the United States, we have divided our website into two major sections. The "Before the Civil War" section will help you understand the many causes of the Civil War, and the "After the Civil War" section will explain how the war changed our country. We hope you enjoy our website and learn a lot about the Civil War!

Before the Civil War

Learn what caused the South to break away from the rest of the country. Read about the events that caused the Civil War like the Raid at Harpers Ferry, the Kansas-Nebraska Act, and the Dred Scott Decision. These important events caused the south to want to separate from the North and become its own country, which would eventually lead to war. To learn everything you need to know about what caused the Civil War, click the "Before" button at the bottom of the page.

After the Civil War

Learn how the war affected the North and South, helped slaves, and changed the lives of Southerners forever. We all know that slavery ended after the Civil War, but did the Civil War give equality to black men & women? Click on the "After" button at the bottom of the page to find out.
