War Production

War Production:

Supplying for the War

In order to win World War II, the United States and Canada had to supply the allies with lots of weapons including ships, tanks, aircraft, and guns. To make the weapons, the United States and Canada had to build war factories to make them. Canada and the United States reopened old factories, and even automobile factories stopped making cars and started making weaponry for the war.

Production Rate

In 1942, President Roosevelt ordered the making of 60,000 planes. Many people thought this was going to be impossible. But, in 1943, almost 86,000 planes were made. Also, the time it took for an aircraft carrier to be built dropped from 36 months in 1941, to 15 months in 1945. Because the United States was able to produce so much weaponry and provide so many soldiers, Germany and Japan simply could not produce enough weaponry or replace their soldiers fast enough to keep up with the battles. It was only a matter of time before they would be defeated.
