One day the Thunderer saw an Iroquois woman on the Niagra River in a canoe about to be crushed by the current. He picked up the women and over the next few weeks he found out that she was running away from a wedding which she was forced into. The Serpent lived in this very same village.

When he sent her back he saw the Serpent slithering to the alternate village to get away from the plague. The Thunderer told her how to cure the illness. So Thunderer threw his bolts of lightning towards the snake. After he finished the barrage of lightning people noticed the carcass of the Serpent. It was damming up the river. As the immense stream of water cascaded down in a perfect arch, the villagers celebrated the death of the wicked Serpent.
