In Colonial times, wool dying was very important. In most towns, there was a person who had the job of wool dyer. There was a wool dyer because people got bored with undyed wool. Other jobs, such as the milliner depended on the dyed wool. This activity requires adult supervision.

Materials:
Ø a pot
Ø water
Ø onion skins
Ø vinegar
Ø a hot plate or stove
Steps:
Ø Put onion skins in a pot of water.
Ø Bring the water to a boil.
Ø Let it simmer for 20 minutes.
Ø Let the water cool.
Ø Take out the onion skins.
Ø Heat the water and put in the wool.
Ø Put in 2 tablespoons of vinegar.
Ø Turn off the heat and let it soak for one hour.
Ø Rinse the wool in cool water and let it dry.
