Wheelwright

I’m Oceanus and I’m wheelwright by trade. I craft wheels starting by making the hub, the center of the wheel, on a lathe. Then I use a tamped reamer to open the center so I can install a metal piece called a bearing. Then I use a tool called a chisel to create rectangular holes leaving the spokes, which connects the bearing to the rim also known as the circumference. I nail the spokes made of a wood called ash (I would use a heavy hammer to pound the nails in.) The spokes have to radiate towards wooden arches called fellies.

With every wheel I make I get better at carving wood. I help my master extremely hard, which I like! It is tiresome working all day through. Though my parents were strict, my master is even stricter. I miss my parents all day. Right now we are repairing a wheel for a merchant.

I depend on five occupations for my basic supplies. The blacksmith provides my iron hoops and the head of my heavy hammer. I would depend on the farmer to supply the trees for the lumberjacks to chop down, and then sends them to the sawmill and on to the cabinetmaker to craft my hammer handle. The farmer relies on me to craft and repair his wagon wheels. The families need me for the same reason. What a coincidence! The wagon Wright, or wagon maker, depends on me for wheels for his wagons and other things he crafts. The merchant depends on me for two things: to buy wheels to sell to people and to repair his wagon wheels. Not one single person depends on just himself or herself.

The picture to the left is the sign that hangs outside of my shop.  On the right is an example of a wheel that I would craft.
