Milliner |
|
Hello! My name is Catherine. I am also known as Cat. I am a milliner and I use materials such as scraps of cloth, scissors to cut the cloth, thread and needles to sew the dresses I make for women and girls. The first step I do is to ask people what style of dress they want. Then I measure the person to see what size to make the skirt or dress they want. After that I draw the pattern on the color cloth my customer wants and cut it out. Then I sew it together.
There are things I enjoy about my job and a few things I don’t. I enjoy the fitting and trading goods with people. I dislike ironing and sewing the clothes.
I depend on lots of people with different jobs for materials I need. The blacksmith and silversmiths provide me with needles and an iron. The spinner makes thread that I use to sew the cloth together. People also depend on me for making clothes, ironing their clothes, thread and goodies like hats.

Part of my job was to iron clothing. The iron above was heated on the stove. The picture to the right shows an ironing board with an apron ready to be ironed.
