Maple Sapper |
|
My name is Remembrance and I am a maple sapper. I use a lot of tools like spouts, buckets, kettles, oxen, a spoon, a drill and an auger. I use the auger to bore hole into trees and insert spouts. Then I hang buckets under them so that the sap drips into the buckets. Afterward, men and boys boil the sap into maple syrup.
When I stir the sap it makes my arms ace so I hate doing that. I also dislike the steam that rises from the kettle because it makes me hot and sweaty. When I’m boiling the sap and stirring it the only thing I like is the smell of it. I also like to hang the buckets because I love the exercise. When the sap is finished I make candy for children.
The tools I have I trade for. For example, the cooper will make my buckets and a blacksmith will make my kettle, drill and auger. I trade my syrup for these tools. The baker depends on me so he can sweeten his bread. The innkeeper might want some for cooking or for pancakes.
