Broom Maker

HH00549_.wmf (18866 bytes)

My name is William. My job is to make brooms. The tools I use are a piece of rope, hay and large pieces of wood. This is what I have to do: I get the hay and tie it up with a rope and cut the hay with a hatchet. Then I tie it to a long piece of wood. When I am finished I have made a sturdy broom.

I enjoy my work. When I get to use the hatchet and tie the hay up with a piece of rope. I feel strong and do not appreciate it when I break the rope with my hands and wrap it around wood into the hay because I could get a sliver.

I depend on the farmer to get my hay and the sawmill for my wood. I would depend on shopkeepers, housewives, milliners and anyone who needs to keep their floors clean.

The picture to the left is the sign that hangs outside of my shop.  The picture on the right is an example of a broom I might have made.
