How to Operate a Hot-Air Balloon
(Take-Off & Landing)

The first thing a pilot will do will be to lay the hot-air balloon out across a large area, downwind from the basket.  Then he/she attaches the basket to the bag.  A large fan then blows air into the bag, half way inflating it.  The burner is then started.  As the air heats, the balloon rises, pulling the basket upright, the balloon is now standing right up above the basket and burner.  In order to lift off the pilot must keep feeding fuel into the burner, to go higher he/she feeds the burner with more and more fuel.  When the pilot lands quickly, he/she will use the cooling vent.  Once landed the pilot pulls the rip panel to deflate the balloon.
