Buddhism,
a major world religion, was founded in northeastern India.
In 2000, there were more than 350 million Buddhist in Asia. Originating
as a monastic movement within the dominant Brahman tradition of the day,
Buddhism quickly developed in a distinctive direction.
Buddhists
today are followers of
Mahayana.
Throughout much of
Asia it is especially difficult to
estimate the continuing influence of Buddhism in Communist countries such as
China.
Buddhists don't believe in a personal God but in a
Buddha. They believe that Jesus was a teacher but not as important as
Buddha. They believe that they are responsible for their own sin and sin
is anything that gets in the way of what they want. They believe that they
are saved by their own doings.
