Dragons in Everyday Life

The dragon is very important in the life and celebrations of the Chinese. In fact, the Chinese people call the dragon "The divine mythical creature that brings with it ultimate abundance, prosperity and good fortune."  Eastern dragons (Chinese) are considered to be beautiful, friendly, helpful and wise, unlike the Western dragons, which are considered to be destructive and evil.

The dragon is also considered to be a symbol of protection. The dragon is used in sayings like, "The carp has leaped through the dragon’s gate," which means success.  It is also said that a carp that can successfully jump rapids and waterfalls will turn into a dragon. The people of China consider dragons the "Angels of the Orient." If the dragon was on court robes, it indicated the person’s ability to mediate between heaven and earth.
