The ancient
Egyptians had a form of writing called Hieroglyphics. Only the scribes
(readers and writers) could learn to use hieroglyphics. Hieroglyphics
are little pictures that represent letters. Archaeologists found
out what the hieroglyphs meant using the Rosseta Stone. The Rosseta
Stone is a rock that had three writings on it: Modern Greek, ancient Egypt,
and ancient Greek. Some people knew Modern Greek so that is how we
deciphered ancient Egyptian. Hieroglyphics come in many different
forms and shapes. Now that you know that much about hieroglyphics
you can find out more at the library or in the encyclopedia.
