Employees When the museum first opened, there were no employees. Family, friends and volunteers were practically the only source of help the founders got. Now there are about 25 employees. Everyone does the same kind of work at the museum. The first thing everyone does in the morning is usually cleaning. When interviewing people who wish to work at the museum, Greg Hawley often asks, “What do you think about cleaning bathrooms?” If the person he is interviewing responds something like, “Well I didn’t go to college to learn to clean bathrooms,” that candidate won’t be chosen. When choosing employees, it is preferable if a person has a college education, but it is not necessary. However, an employee must be good with people in order to work at the museum. Also, employees have to take shifts cleaning the artifacts and giving tours. At the Steamboat Arabia Museum, employees are supposed to treat visitors like a rich relative. |
