The
Crusades
In 1096 the Crusades were ordered by Pope Urban II to regain the Holy Land. The Muslims took Jerusalem, which was the center of Christianity, from the Christians. Europeans joined together to fight the Muslims in Jerusalem. This was a time of great religious faith and many crusades were fought in this time. During the middle ages the Muslims were blocking all land routs to the Middle East. People joined together, grabbed their weapons, and went off to fight the Muslims. Charles the Hammer led the Crusades along with other leaders. Charles drove the Muslims out of the Holy Land. The crusades were important because they regained the Holy Land and stimulated trade to the Middle East and Asia, which was important to advance technology.
