Travel back in time, and take a tour of the fascinating Butler Greenwood. Butler Greenwood, an early Louisiana plantation is a very interesting plantation to visit. Descendants of the original owners are still living in this plantation today, which makes for a very interesting tour. While sitting on the front porch, you are told a bit of Butler Greenwood's history by a 7th generation descendant, Anne Butler (her children being the 8th generation).
People think of plantations as fancy mansions, but Butler Greenwood looks as if it were an ordinary house until you get inside to see things dating back to the 1800's. Unlike most plantations, all of Butler Greenwood's rooms are still being used for the same purpose and look almost exactly as they did when this plantation was built in 1795 by Dr. Samuel Flower. The cook had his/her own cottage. One of the rooms has carpet so old and delicate that you are asked to walk on plastic. Today, there is still some indigo growing, which was the first cash crop grown on this plantation. Butler Greenwood went from first being a barren forest to this wonderful plantation.
