Buddhist Influence:
Buddhism, brought to Japan from China in the 6th century, carried with
it the Buddhist temple architectural style. Grandure and huge structures
were a trademark of buddhist temple building. One example is the hall
in Todaiji Temple in Nara that houses the Daibutsu (Great Buddha) this
hall constructed in the 8th century is the largest wooden structure in
the world
Chinese Influence:
China not only brought Buddhism and its architectural leanings to Japan
but other Chinese ideas and techniques influenced and were used by the
Japanese. In the 700s, a new capitol, Heijokyo was set up with its streets
in a grid pattern, a common practice in China.
