THE KRAKEN

                    By Jeremy

For many generations, no one thought there was truth in the stories about a mythical sea monster, the Kraken. The name of this great beast came from Norway during the middle ages. The Kraken is a very famous sea monster-myth. The great sea serpent or giant squid would reach up to a ship with its huge tentacles and devour the entire ship and crew.

Recently, discoveries of actual specimens of giant octopi and squid caught in the Atlantic Ocean raise the question of whether very real “surviving dinosaur-level” sea creatures lived through the Middle Ages, perhaps actually attacking ships during Columbus’ time.

It lives between 1000 – 6000 feet below the ocean’s surface, and can grow very large. Yet, it can  grow to the size of the original myth. No one knows for sure because no one has ever seen a Giant Squid alive in its natural habitat.

As recent as 1997, National Geographic sent a team with state-of-the-art submarines and filming equipment to search for the “great beast.” Though the team failed to find a living Giant Squid, the crew was all convinced that they had “just missed it.”

The Kraken, a sea monster or sea snake, originated during the Middle Ages. It was said to be a mile-and-a-half-wide, with tentacles large enough to capture and sink ships. Sea Serpents are not restricted to the open sea.”

Probably no legendary sea monster was as horrifying as the Kraken.
According to stories, this huge creature could reach
as high as the top of a sailing ship.
