Theo Theodorakis
Theo worked in the family coffee shop.
He was the brother of Christos and friend of Doug Hoo. He believed that his postion in life was to
take care of his brother Chris who was suffering from a dehabilitation disease which confined him
to a wheelchair.
He was your typical high school senior at the age of 17 who enjoyed playing sports.
He seemed to be lonely all the time because he couldn't find anyone else who had the same interest as he in chess.
Later in life he grew up to be a writer and married Turtle.
What does a writer do?
A writer writes many different types of text. Writers can write books, articles for magazines, jokes,
greeting cards, newspapers, television and radio, and for fun.
- News writers: These writers write for newspapers and news broadcasts on television and the radio.
- Columnists: Write columns for the newspaper about a variety of different subjects. Some columnists also write for magazines.
- Editorial Writers: These writers write for newspapers and magazines and express a feeling or opinion about a person place or thing.
- Copywriters: Write advertisements for many different purposes.
- Technical Writers: These writers write things that are hard to do including easy to follow directions. Technical writers can also include computer programmers.
Who helps writers?
Individuals such as editors help writers edit their information. They tell writers what is good and bad about their writing and help them to re-write their words. Editors also decide what articles go in a magazine or newspaper and identify what the readers will like to read.
Preparing to be a writer
Many writers must have a college degree in journalism or English. Technical writers also study areas such as science and computer science.
If writer's do not have a college education, they might not have a salary as nice as someone who does have a college education until they get further experience.
If you want to be a writer, it is good to be curious about the world around you, interested in a variety of topics, be able to write precisely, and be creative.
Where writers work
Writers work in a variety of locations and environments. Some writers may research at the library, others may converse over the telephone. Many other writers work in noisy environments and still others travel quite a bit. A writers job is constantly meeting deadlines. Many writers work above and beyond your typical 40 hour work week.
Many writers also work from home to meet their deadlines.
The future of a writer
Many people enjoy the art of writing, therefore, writing positions will become more scarce. Writer's who have specialized areas such as working on the Internet and in technical areas, may have an advantage of finding jobs due to the dot com industry.
Salary
Unfortunately, writers earn between $15,000 at the lowest and $100,000 at the highest per year. Of course your salary will depend upon your experience, education, and willingness to be flexible in your writing.
