Mr. Sandy McSouthers is Sunset Tower's doorman. He is 65 years old. He was born in Edinburgh, Scotland. His family immigrated to Wisconsin when he was three years old. He only went to school until the 8th grade. He is married with 6 kids and 2 grandchildren.

He wears a baggy uniform, taped glasses and drinks from a flask. He has a chipped tooth, scars on his face and a bashed-in nose. He was friendly and faithful.

He worked as a mill worker, union organizer, prize fighter and at Westing Paper Mill, where he was fired after 20 years of working. At the end of the book, he is fired from the doorman's job by Barney Northrup.
