Miss Havisham
Role:
An old, wealthy woman who has been in the same dress and has not stepped out of her house for years, Miss Havisham has sworn to take revenge on the whole male sex.

Motives:
She only has one motive for her behavior, a broken heart.  Because her lover didn't show up at the wedding, she has remained in the same clothes, stopped all clocks, and left everything as it was when her heart was broken.

Miss Havisham's words show how much hurt she endured from her ruined wedding.  A normal person would grieve for a while then return to life, but Miss Havisham had a breakdown.  She isolated herself from the world.
