What Is Conservation?

Penguin conservationists all over the world volunteer their time to help endangered species thrive in the wilderness. International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW -- www.ifaw.org) /J. Hrusa

Conservation is something often talked about by lawmakers, adults, and children. We all know it is the preservation and protection of natural resources. But what you may not know is that penguins in the wild need to be protected as well as our rivers, lakes and forests. Penguins are not often thought about unless you happen to see them at a zoo or other animal parks. However, they should be thought about often as many of them are in danger of being extinguished from our planet. Some penguins in New Zealand are suffering from encroachment by humans. Others off the coast of South Africa suffered from a major oil spill. Still others in Antarctica are suffering from the effects of ozone depletion. It is our responsibility to take care of these animals and save them from mankind.
