Squire: Derived from the French word "escuier" meaning "Shield Bearer." Adolescents training for knighthood were given the rank of Squire between the ages 14 and 17. This is the second and final stage in training, the boys were pages first and once they complete squire, they may move on to become knights. Very few squires actually became knight's, you had to have a very large income to be able to afford that kind of life. Armor and horses alone cost more than most squire's could ever hope to make.
