Who's Important in 2001
 

George W. Bush, President of the United States, was thrust into America's greatest trauma and is now considered a war president. "From this day forward," said President Bush, "any nation that continues to harbor or support terrorism will be regarded by the United States as a hostile regime."

Dick Cheney is a sixty year old Vice President and has had heart problems for twenty years. He had a pacemaker installed in June and is expected to do well with it in the future.

Colin Powell, the U.S. Secretary of State, has strong connections to international affairs. He doesn't want to expand the war on terrorism to other countries because he feels that it would only cause more trouble.

Donald Rumsfield is the U.S. Secretary of Defense and is considered as a hawk. That means that he favors military action when in doubt. He wants to teach the Taliban that "terrorism is unacceptable and carries a price."

Osama bin Laden is the ClA's most wanted man. He has threatened attacks on America for years and is believed to be the man that is responsible for the attacks on September 11th.

General Pervez Musharraf, the President of Pakistan, used to support the Taliban in Afghanistan, but changed his mind quickly after the attacks on America. He's letting us use Pakistan's air bases in return for help in future wars that he believes are coming very soon.

Mullah Mohammad Omar is the leader of the Taliban in Afghanistan. He doesn't believe that Osama bin Laden had the weapons or the authority to pull offsuch a large attack. President Bush thinks otherwise.

Rudy Giuliani was the person of the year for 2001. He had so much courage and hope for New York and was thought of as "Mayor of the World." One of his quotes was,"Freedom is about authority. Freedom is about the willingness of every single human being to cede to lawful authority a great deal of discretion about what you do and how you do it."
