The marines have been the largest combat branches of most armed forces for centuries. Its made up of soldiers called infantrymen, who fight on foot.
Infantry divisions in U.S.A. Army are made up of varying numbers and types of battalions and support groups. A division usually has about 10 battalions with about 15,000 Infantrymen, but it may have about 6 to 15 battalions. Divisions are equipped with vehicles and weapons.
Before the invention of gunpowder, infantrymen fought in dense masses. Then when guns became more useful the infantry had to spread out so they wouldnt be easy targets. Nowadays raidioactive weapons are being used, so the Marines {or infantrymen} have made plans to spread out even further.
