Skin And Scales

There are four main types of scales :
|

1. Dorsal Scales - back and sides
|
||||||||||||||||
|
2. Ventral Scales - underside
|
||||||||||||||||
| 3. Head Scales - large and platelike | ||||||||||||||||
| 4. Subcaudal Scales - beneath snakes tail | ||||||||||||||||
| There are seven dfferent types of scales : | ||||||||||||||||
|
1. Ventral Scales: typical scales which are smooth , short, wide and overlap
|
||||||||||||||||
| 2. Smooth Dorsal Scales: scales which are triangular shaped and overlappes dorsal scales. Very smooth and polished surface. | ||||||||||||||||
| 3. Kelled Dorsal Scales: scales which are rigid and have a rough appearance | ||||||||||||||||
| 4. Granular Dorsal Scales: small and rough scales with a conical shape | ||||||||||||||||
| 5. Large Head Scales - helps identify certain snakes | ||||||||||||||||
| 6. Small Head Scales - small, sairly uniform scales | ||||||||||||||||
| 7. Paired Subscaudal | ||||||||||||||||
| There are two distinct parts of skin : thickened areas and interstitial areas | ||||||||||||||||
