WHAT IS LIGHTNING?
Lightning is an electrical discharge accompanied by thunder, commonly occurring in a thunderstorm. This electrical discharge may take place between one cloud and another near by. Lightning may appear as a jagged streak, or in a tree formation.
WHERE DOES LIGHTNING USUALLY STRIKE?
Lightning usually strikes in or during a thunderstorm and tornadoes. And only on special occasions will it lightning in Alaska.
FACTS ABOUT LIGHTNING
1. Lightning that is red is called heat lightning.
2. Lightning has been known to kill almost 150 people a year.
