What's wrong here?
1. Style: Make sure you take advantage
of font options like bold, italics, and, if everything else
is already used, underline. Doing so (in moderation) can boost
ease-of-use and readability. In addition, use bulleted lists to clarify
long listings and groupings.
2. Laziness: Write everything out. This includes numbers, dates,
and, most of all, names of organizations and people.
3. Spelling: Many web development programs
do not include spell checkers; this does not mean that you can have spelling
errors. Be especially careful for words that sound the same but have different
meanings, like to, too, and two.
4. Punctuation: Put periods at the
ends of sentences and commas between every item in a list. Use a question
mark at the end of an interrogative sentence and, if absolutely necessary,
an exclamation point at the end of an exclamatory sentence. The rest is
just details.
5. Capitalization: Capitalize proper nouns and words at the beginning
of a sentence; do not capitalize anything else.
6. Sentence forms: Be sure to vary your sentence forms. If one
of your sentences is "simple," try to follow it with a complex,
compound, or compound-complex sentence. The following are examples of
different types of sentences:
- Simple (one thought): I ran quickly.
- Compound (two thoughts): I ran quickly, and then I sat.
- Complex (one and a half thoughts): I ran quickly, eating my sandwich as I went to class.
- Compound-complex (two and a half thoughts): I ran quickly, eating my sandwich as I went to class, and then I sat.
7. Verb use: Use strong verbs instead of excessive adjectives and
adverbs. Also, make sure that you have subject-verb agreement (I run,
he runs, etc.).
8. Carelessness: Check everything you write twice. Most of the
mistakes in the above paragraph could be prevented with a quick read.
