Ice Ages
What Is an Ice Age?
During an ice age, temperatures are very cold
over larger parts of the earth. Great sheets of ice cover these areas.
Ice during an ice age can be over a mile thick. The ice starts to
form near the north and south poles.
Every year during an ice age the glaciers
grow bigger. The glaciers grow because the summer temperatures aren’t warm
enough to melt the snow that falls during the winter. The glaciers become
enormous and cover immense areas. Glaciers bring winter wherever they go.
Wherever glaciers are ice, snow and cold temperatures are sure to be found.
