Although the Americans felt deeply sadden by the attack which caused the deaths of 2,300 Americans, completely destroying The U.S.S. Arizona, sinking more than 180 ships and 3 vessels the Japanese had another perspective. Since the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor they had different views on the ,Pearl Harbor attack. Emperor Hirohito's reaction was he felt thrilled about the decision to enter war. Not only that but he was pleased by the Japanese naval and military sucess following Pearl Harbor. The Japanese Government was divided. Between naval and military who wanted to keep on fighting and the civilian officials who wanted to negotiate for peace. The Japanese Prime Minister Suzuki Kantaro wanted to make peace. That was mainly the governmental reaction on Pearl Harbor.
On November 26 the Japanese fleet of attackers went on their route toward Pearl Harbor. The Commander, Vice Admiral Nagumo got his the final orders on December 1 and the fleet was ready to attack on the 7th. At 7:49 am the Japanese ordered to "Attack!" The group was led by Lieutenant Commander Murata the torpedo bombers lauched their torpedos. After at 7:53 am the message that the Surprise Attack was successful was sent to the flagship of the Japanese attack fleet (Akagi). The attack was started with a bomb falling on Wheeler Field. The attack continued four planes had been shot down and it was 8:00 am and no enemy planes were in sight. After the bomber finished their attack plans they head north going back unchallenged by the enemy.
The responses of the people were a different than the responses of the government to Pearl Harbor. One man felt that the land attacks Japan had prior to war had similar effects. Also that the atomic bomb dropped on of iroshima, Nagasaki and Okinawa had the same tragic impact on Japan. Also, a 79 year old man felt that the fact that the restriction of weapons in Japan(England 5, America 5, Japan 3) led the Commander of the Japanese military to ultimately engage in the surprise attack on Pearl Harbor. Also many people felt angry that many Japanese-Americans were put in jail due to the Pearl Harbor attacks because Americans felt that they might provide the Japanese military with information. Many people say this was unfair and cry upon remembering that sad time in their lives. Other responses to Pearl Harbor was an unfortunate war that Japan knew they could not win! Those are some of the responses that the people of Japan had to Pearl Harbor.
