Beijing
The capital city of China is Beijing. Sometimes on old maps it is written Peking. Lots of people arrive at the train station in Beijing or the Beijing airport. The Trans-Siberian express arrives in Beijing coming all the way from Moscow! But the train ride takes six days! That's a long time!
There are about nine million people living in Beijing. Beijing is the home of the world's biggest square! It is located in the middle of the large town. You may see excited children buying ice cream or flying kites.
At one of the ends of the square, there is an ancient building named Tiananmen which is called the Gate of Heavenly Peace. On Tiananmen Gate, there is a huge picture of the Chinese leader whose name is Mao Zedong.
Mao Zedong lived from 1893 to 1976. He was a Communist. He strongly believed that peasants and hard working people should run the country rather than rich business people and land owners. He fought Jiana Jieshi (which is pronounced Chiang Kai-shek) and the Chinese Nationalists who were all against communism.
