Because the Upper Coastal Plains has a mild climate it allows it to be the major agriculture region of the state.

The economy of the Coastal Plains relies on agriculture and manufactoring industry. The major crops of the Coastal Plains are cotton, tobacco, corn, and peanuts. Broilers, eggs,and cattle, are major products also. Cotton is the number one crop that is planted here.

Over the years much of the farmland has been converted to pine plantations, which grow slash pine at the lower boundary and loblolly pine northward of the fall line.
