The United States Flag

- The United States flag has 13 stripes and 50 stars. The stripes represent the original 13 colonies. The fifty stars represent the current number of states.

- During the National Anthem, when the flag is displayed, everyone except those in uniform puts their right hand on their heart. Men remove their hats, and the military holds their salute until the end.

- The flag is especially raised on particular days.
In 1818, Congress enacted a law concerning the flag. There will always be 13 stripes to represent the original colonies. The number of stars should always match the current number of states. When a new state was added, a new star was added the following July 4.
