Bald Eagle

-
The bald eagle represents freedom because he lives on the
tops of lofty mountains and has unlimited freedom.
-
The bald eagle was chosen on June 20, 1782 as an emblem of
the United States of America when the Great Seal of the United States was
adopted. The eagle was figured prominently on the seal.
-
It was not until 1787 that the American bald eagle was officially
adopted as the emblem of the United States.
-
It was chosen because of its long life, great strength, and
majestic looks. It was then believed to exist only on this continent.
-
The eagle appears in the Seals of many of our States and
on most of our gold and silver coins. It is also used a great deal
in patriotic decorations.
Did You Know...?
Benjamin Franklin felt the bald eagle was a bird of bad
moral character and felt the turkey would have been a more proper emblem.
