The White House

The Blue Room was designed by James Hoban as an oval as requested by George Washington. The Blue Room today is used as a reception room for foreign dignitaries.

The Red Room has walls covered in satin. While James Madison was President, Dolly would have musical gatherings on Sunday nights in the Red Room.

The Oval Office changes as each new president comes to serve.  Each president brings personal things such as favorite furniture or artwork, and each new president makes selections from the White House Art Collection to decorate this room.

The East Room is the largest room in theWhite House. While Roosevelt was still president, he held wrestling matches in it.

Did you know...?
The White House has 132 rooms, 32 bathrooms, and 6 levels located on 18 acres.  The White House receives about 6,000 visitors a day. With 5-full time chefs, the White House is able to serve dinner to as many as 140 people.
