Clocks
Nobody knows when or who made the clock, all we know is that we are happy
whoever it was, did. The very first
clock was the sundial. It works
because the shadow of the stick on the sundial works like the hands on the clock
telling what time it is. When the
sun moves, the shadow moves like the hands on a clock.
The next major clock is a spring powered one.
Peter Henlein of Nuremberg, Germany invented the spring-powered clock in
about 1510. Jost Burgi (1552 - 1632) has been credited with having invented the
first clock with a minute hand in about 1577; however, it was not until the
invention of the pendulum-regulated clock after 1656 that a minute hand became
important. Now clocks are the most
used technology. We don’t know
where we would be without clocks.
